This workshop will begin with an illustrated lecture using quilts, fabrics, and other visual examples to discuss methods for selecting the colors you use in your quilts. We will discuss the basic color wheel, harmony and contrast, color combinations, and techniques for using focus fabrics. You will have practice worksheets designed to help you understand a number of color combinations. Each student will receive a traditional basket pattern. Using this pattern and a focus fabric, everyone will select a range of fabrics to design their own unique scrap quilt.

Foundation Pieced Miniature Quilts
Lecture and Workshop - all levels of experience
Workshop: 6 Hours
This can also be presented as a 1 to 1 ½ hour lecture.
This workshop will begin with a brief lecture and discussion of helpful tips for foundation piecing miniature quilts. A basic knowledge of foundation piecing will be helpful, but is not required. Those attending will receive foundation patterns and foundation materials for four different 3" blocks which they will work on during the workshop. These blocks include two 9 patch blocks and two star blocks.

Basics for Beginning Hand Appliqué
Lecture and Workshop
Workshop: 6 Hours (this can be a two day workshop)
This hand appliqué workshop is a great place for beginners to start. The workshop will begin with an illustrated lecture covering fabric types and selection, threads, template materials, marking pencils, and methods used to mark appliqué pieces and background blocks for proper placement. Those attending will learn and practice techniques used for needle turn appliqué, making bias stems, sharp points, smooth curves and perfect circles. Each student will receive a pattern and instruction to practice their new skills.

Intermediate Pictorial Hand Appliqué
Lecture and Workshop
Workshop 6 Hours (this can be a two day workshop)
Students attending this workshop will need the basic knowledge and skills of needle turn applique'. The workshop will begin with an illustrated lecture and discussion of pictorial appliqué quilts. Topics included in the discussion will be fabric selection, color and placement, the use of hand dyed fabrics, hand and machine embroidery embellishments, colored pencil shading, and bleach discharge. Each student will receive an applique' pattern to practice their new skills.

Raw Edge Pictorial Appliqué
Lecture and Workshop
Workshop: 6 Hours
This can also be presented as a 1 to 1 ½ hour lecture.
This workshop will begin with a brief lecture and discussion of techniques used in raw edge appliqué. We will discuss ideas sources, transferring ideas to patterns materials, fabric selection, bonding materials and stabilizers, and machine embroidery embellishments and quilting. Each person attending will learn how to create a one of a kind wall hanging using their own landscape photo.

WORKSHOP AND LECTURE FEES:

REQUIREMENTS:
Class size is limited to 20 students with adequate table space for work and sewing machines, if required. If space is available, Judy will accept a few additional students @ $20.00 per student by permission of the instructor. Additional students will limit the amount of time Judy will be able to spend individually with each student. There is no limit for lectures.
Judy requires access to the classroom at least one hour before class begins. This additional time allows her to setup the classroom for optimal enjoyment of each student.
Lectures and some workshops may require a screen or blank wall for PowerPoint presentations or overhead slide presentations.
If your guild or organization requests a 1 hour lecture or trunk show and the meeting location is more than a 1 1/2 hours drive from Judy's home, the lecture or trunk show must be combined with a workshop.
TRAVEL, LODGING AND MEALS
Travel, lodging and meals must be provided by the guild or organization.
If class location is within reasonable driving distance (1 days drive) the standard IRS mileage rate will apply.
